A Few of Our Favorite Paleo Recipes

The number one question I get when I tell people I’m eating paleo is “what do you eat?” The simple answer to that is that I eat a lot of protein, fruits and veggies and healthy fats. I think that sounds limiting to a lot of people, but it’s really not so bad especially when there are so many people out there creating awesome paleo recipes.

Apart from what’s in my Facebook and Google+ feed, I spend a lot of time meandering over at the Stalkerville gallery where one could seriously find enough paleo recipes to last a lifetime. Also, the site allows you to search by dish types, cooking methods, dietary considerations and more. It’s awesome.

Anyway, I wanted to share a few of our favorite paleo recipes. These are all things I make often – both because I love them and because they are good staples that I can make ahead. I feel like I never stop moving lately so being able to just grab and go is key.

1. Raw Sauerkraut from Balanced Bites

I’ve mentioned this before, but it warrants repeating. This is such an easy recipe to make as written and also to change up. Even my kids are hooked on raw sauerkraut and it has tons of health benefits.

2. Mayo from The Clothes Make the Girl

If you’ve never made your own mayo, you are totally missing out. We use it on our bunless burgers and as a dip for our cut up veggies or sweet potato fries. I’ve tried a few different recipes but this one from Melissa Joulwan is my favorite.

3. Banana Bread from Civilized Caveman

I’m not sure anyone in my family likes this as well as I do, but I also don’t care. When I’m trying to be paleo but not eating totally clean, this is my absolute favorite treat. On the weekends, I usually serve a slice with some kiolbassa and a side of kraut. Yum.

4. Brazilian Shrimp Stew from I Breathe, I’m Hungry

To be perfectly honest, I haven’t made this since last winter but I will definitely be making it again this winter. This soup is ridiculously easy to make and even reheats pretty well. It’s a touch spicy (even Sal thinks so) but you could easily adjust for that.

5. Chipotle Barbacoa from Against All Grain

I am a huge fan of slow cooker recipes and this one is awesome. We eat this yummy shredded beef on half a sweet potato or with mashed cauliflower. It’s so good. I have not tried Danielle’s grain free tortillas yet, but I am definitely planning on it.

So there you go – five of my most loved paleo recipes. See anything up there you’d like to try?
