I’ve been participating in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, in some way or another, for the past 13 years. I’ve been a member of the crew, I’ve walked, I’ve volunteered. I have shared the experience with various members of family and friends.
I had planned to take this year off after a somewhat stressful 2013, but when I received a call from the Crew & Volunteer Coordinator asking me to return to the event, I really couldn’t resist. The event holds such a special place in my heart and I’m so glad I didn’t end up skipping this year.
For the Santa Barbara walk, a group of us generally cover a rest stop. This means getting up at the crack of dawn, building a rest stop in the middle of a park, parking lot or any other open space. You spend your time making sure that walkers have everything they need – water, Gatorade, snacks, port-a-potties, band aids. At the end of the day, you break it all down for the next day.
It can get rough and crazy, but it’s also awesome. In all that madness, it’s often hard to stop and snap a pic or, honestly, even take a breath. Avon Walk weekends are often a complete blur after the fact. But that’s where the new Seahorse app came in super handy this year.
This app enables you to set up what they call a “scene” and everyone you invite can add photos. So after (or during) an event like the walk weekend or a holiday or a baseball season, everyone can see pics, comment on them and even download them because they are co-owned by everyone invited to the scene. It’s pretty darn cool.
The Seahorse app is super easy to use.
1. Download it for iPhone or .
2. Take the tour so you can absorb all the awesome features of the app.
3. Create your own scene by tapping the plus sign.
4. Give the scene a name and add friends using your address book or entering email addresses.
5. Tap the camera icon at the bottom right to add photos from your phone or social media accounts.
6. Use the arrows icon at the bottom to sort photos however you’d like.
Easy, right? And seriously, such a great way to share pics among family and friends. I also used Seahorse over Avon Walk weekend to collect photos of what the kids were up to with my mom. So fun!
