Halloween Cake in a Can

Are you guys as excited about Halloween as I am? Some of you must be cause is FULL of Halloween goodness. So, of course, this month’s Adventures in Pinterest post HAD to be something Halloween-y, right? But so many ideas . . .

When I first saw these super cute Mummy Candy Cans, I knew I wanted to use this idea to make something. I can’t think of a single person that would appreciate me giving their kid a giant can of candy, though, so I wanted to try something a little different.

And then, I decided to combine it with this genius Cake in a Can idea from my friends at Club Chica Circle. I’ve been wanting to try this for forever so it was the perfect solution for what to put in the mummy cans.

I basically followed the cake in a can instructions as written on Club Chica Circle. Check out their blog for the secret to opening the cans and baking instructions.

The key to getting the cakes out of the can EASILY appears to be letting them cool first. I may or may not have remembered that step when making mine.

After you remove the cakes, add sprinkles or whatever other decorations you want. Top with frosting. This part doesn’t feel exactly right but have faith it’s going to work out.

Drop cake back in. I had to cut mine a bit because it wouldn’t have fit in the can otherwise. I’d probably go with 1/3 full of batter rather than 1/2 (as the directions indicate) the next time.

Place bottom back on the can and afix with Duck tape.

Next I added black paper with white eyes. My cans were wrapped in torn strips of white flannel. I used washi tape to afix it on the back side. Next time I’d probably use fabric bandage tape.

And that’s it! After all that, you can pop open the can and it looks like this! Pretty cool, right?
