When Joey started playing baseball last fall, I think Sal and I were both unsure of how that would go. He doesn’t always have a lot of patience or focus. Luckily, he landed on a team with the most patient of coaches and he managed to learn a ton – most importantly, a love of baseball.
Spring league is far more formal than the fall. He has more games and more practices and new coaches. His new coaches are also fab and, again, he’s learning tons – between picking plants and chatting with members of the opposing team. As is the case with most boys his age, his absolute favorite part of the whole event is snack time. Even if he doesn’t touch one thing in the bag, he loves getting them.
I always spend a lot time thinking about and stressing over what we should give out on snack day. So many people have special diets now and eat organic and don’t do sugar. Just thinking about all the potential rules makes me want to pull my hair out. What’s silly is that I think everyone else feels about the same way I do about it.
This time around, I went with some old standbys. Rice Krispie treats (because I always want to put something handmade in), applesauce pouches and a bottle of water or Gatorade (or both). I also included some individually packaged Wet-Nap wipes. Actually, I put two packs in each bag – one for cleaning off the baseball grime and a second for cleaning up after sticky Rice Krispie treats.
I used this tutorial from my friends over at Chica Circle to print on the plain white bags I bought. This was kind of a fun thing to do with Luke (eternally my helper) because he was able to load the bags into the printer a few a time while I was busy doing other things. You can download the printable I made here.

I love this! I don’t have kids in team sports (yet), but I think this idea could be adapted for birthday party treat bags or lunchtime too! Thanks for sharing, and pinning because those sports team snacks will come soon enough.
