Life with Hogan the Lab

It’s been just about a year since we brought home Hogan the kink-tailed chocolate lab. Sal and I both really wanted the boys to grow up with a dog but, as some of you know, we’ve really struggled finding one that was a right fit for our family.

Although we got him on a bit of a whim (which is how I live a lot of my life), we had done some research into what kinds of dogs would work well in our home with two small boys. Joey loves Hogan but most days could take or leave him. Luke, on the other hand, is one of those kids who adores dogs and wants to love on them 24/7.

Raising Hogan has been a bit of a struggle. I mean, what puppy isn’t, right? He eats, well, everything. He loves to make messes. He is an escape artist of the highest order. Basically, he’s a giant pain in the butt.

But here’s the thing you need to know about Hogan. He is the most sweet and loving dog I’ve ever known. Luke can lay on him, attempt to ride him, pretty much do anything he wants to him and Hogan just takes it. And better yet, he normally responds with kisses.

Because Hogan brings us so much joy, we make it a priority to take good care of him. We feed him high quality food and treats and do our best to baby him in every way possible. We keep him well-stocked with balls (that he eats) and chew toys (that he also eats).
