Recapping 2013: Meme Style

When New Year’s Eve rolls around, I always think I should take a minute to recap the year here on the blog. And then I usually get distracted and forget because, well, that’s how I roll. This has been a HUGE year for me in more ways than one – a good year but a crazy year. I’m really excited for 2014 because I have big plans, both blog-related and not.

Megan mentioned this meme from The Diniwilks during a year end post brainstorming session on Facebook and I thought it was perfect. Not too much info in a not too boring format. So here it goes . . .

 1. What did you do in 2013 that you’d never done before?

Visited Charlotte and Chicago. Rented a house. Probably more things, too, I just can’t remember what they were.

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I think I resolved to spend more time with my family and lose some weight. I’d say I did fair on the former and poor on the latter.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

My sister and my friends, Erica + Brooke. Lotsa babies this year!

4. Did anyone close to you die?

My Uncle Rick passed away early this year. I keep thinking I should write about that but don’t know what to say exactly.

5. What countries did you visit?

None.

6. What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?

More time and patience.

7. What dates from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

December 2 was my start date at my new job. Also, my niece was born on December 23.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Putting myself out there to get a new job (or two!) that I really love.

9. What was your biggest failure?

I can’t quite get a handle on balancing the things I want to do with the things I have to do.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

No, thank goodness.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

My MacBook.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

My husband’s. I’m so, so lucky to have him.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

Gosh, I don’t know. There were definitely some disappointments, but I’m not sure whether “appalled and depressed” fits exactly.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Who knows. Bills, moving, the holidays.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Joey starting TK. It was such a big deal for all of us.

16. What song will always remind you of 2013?

I’m not really a music person.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

– happier or sadder? Happier.
– thinner or fatter? Fatter.
– richer or poorer? Richer.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?

Relaxing and enjoying my family.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Yelling.

20. How did you spend Christmas?

A little of this and a little of that. It’s always madness.

21. Did you fall in love in 2013?

Not with anyone I didn’t already love.

I don’t know. Can’t think of anything specific.

28. What was your favorite film this year?

Meet the Millers

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I was 36. I can’t remember what we did, if anything. It was many moons ago.

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Finishing more projects.

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?

I’m not sure I have a “personal fashion concept” but I’m trying to hang on to what I learned from Nicole at The Wardrobe Code.

32. What kept you sane?

My husband. Always.

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Hmmm. I dunno.

34. What political issue stirred you the most?

Politics makes me ragey.

35. Who did you miss?

My Grandpa. Now that we live so close to where he lived, I think about him a ton. He would have adored Sal and the boys and they would have loved him, too.

36. Who was the best new person you met?

Anna. I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason and meeting Anna at BBC Phoenix is no exception.

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013.

Say I love you because you just never know when you’ll get another chance.

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

I’m finally catching up on the blogs from our holiday giveaway group today and I love yours :) I’m a friend of Anna’s too, we grew up together!

Ironically, tonight I watched Meet the Millers with my husband … We had about 15 minutes left of the movie, our son woke up, hubs fell asleep while trying to get him back asleep, and I’m dying to know what happens! So I’m catching up on blogs instead of watching the rest without him….
